The onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March of 2020 shocked the world and spiraled millions of people into a rapid state of panic. The pandemic left people feeling a grave sense of uncertainty as the virus spread, businesses closed, events canceled, and economies collapsed. Thankfully, with the authorization of three
COVID-19 vaccines, the world will hopefully return to a safe and healthy place once again.
As 2021 begins, it is vital that you positively maintain your mental health. If 2020 taught us anything, it is that we need to expect the unexpected. Thus, here are four ways to support your mental well-being during 2021.
1) Meditate: One of the best ways to relax your mind is to meditate. Meditation is a process that relaxes your mind and body. Meditation is carried out in multiple ways; however, one of the most common forms involves focusing your attention on your breathing patterns. If you are a novice to meditation, no need to worry. There are plenty of resources available, including apps, YouTube tutorials, and books. Meditation is crucial to your mental health as research has found that it is effective in treating
depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
2) Exercise: Exercise is a great method for reducing anxiety and depression since it releases "happy†chemicals into your brain, like
dopamine and
serotonin. As these chemicals release into your brain via exercise, you are likely to feel more relaxed and happier. Whether you run on the treadmill, embark on a hike, or take a few laps around the pool, get your muscles moving to decrease your stress or sadness.
3) Aromatherapy: One of the cheapest forms of therapy involves candles and essential oils. Aromatherapy, which has been around for
thousands of years, utilizes certain scents to calm the body. Lavender, peppermint, rose, and tea tree are just a few of the many oils that can be used to treat anxiety, depression, and even exhaustion. There are various diffusers sold online at reasonable prices that you can use at any time. Thus, consider purchasing a diffuser and an array of oils to feel a greater sense of ease.
4) Webinars: Even though the pandemic has shut down yoga studios and meditation centers all across the globe, many places are still offering anxiety and depression management courses virtually. Through WITI, for example, Alyse Hart regularly leads Energy Management sessions that promote relaxation to support your balance, energy, and spirit. Do research on mental health-related webinars to gain guidance and wisdom from professionals who can support your mental health.
2020 was certainly a difficult year. It is safe to say that everyone is probably relieved that it is now behind us. Your mind, body, and spirit deserve comfort and support during these trying times.
