About Our Speaker(s)

MODERATOR:
Donna Kelly, Entrepreneurship Professor,
Babson College,teaches courses on entrepreneurship, corporate entrepreneurship, managing growing businesses, and developing business plans.

Donna received her Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She has an MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a BA in Chemistry from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Donna's early career involved work as a chemical technician for James River Graphics and as a quality control chemist for Stanley Home Products. Her entrepreneurship experience involves founding a health fitness business and joining the management team of a computer hardware startup, responsible for finance and operations.

Donna has published research on the patent, alliance, and product innovation activities of technology-based startups, focusing on computer hardware and telecommunications firms. She has also published research on management practices for innovation and corporate entrepreneurship in large established organizations. Her current research streams include: (1) the characteristics of breakthrough patents, (2) innovation and entrepreneurship in new ventures and established organizations in Korea, and (3) the corporate entrepreneurship process in large, established organizations, with a special interest in how organizations create systems for managing entrepreneurial projects.


SPEAKER:
Rebecca (Rebek) Duhaime,
is Vice President of ESG Strategic Initiatives at EMC Corporation. With 2005 revenues of $9.66 billion, and approximately 26,500 employees worldwide, EMC is the world leader in products, services, and solutions for information management and storage that help organizations extract the maximum value from their information, at the lowest total cost, across every point in the information lifecycle.

Rebek drives strategic evolution in the creation and leverage of product information assets. Active initiatives include Software Licensing and Distribution, Electronic License Management, Structured Authoring and Content Management, and Common Product Information Management.
Previously, Rebek was Vice President, Storage Management, and delivered the integrated ControlCenter management suite. ControlCenter provides an end-to-end scalable solution for multi-vendor storage resource, network, and device management.

Rebek joined EMC in 1999 and has 20 years software industry experience spanning Engineering and Sales Management, Marketing, Professional Services and Customer Support. Prior employers include Sterling Software, Systems Center and VM Software.

Rebek is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, pursued graduate studies in Russian at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow, and holds an MS in Computer Science from George Washington University.

SPEAKER:
Emma A. Durand, Chief Technology Officer
American Biophysics

As Chief Technology Officer of American Biophysics, Ms. Durand is responsible for management of technology development for rapid product introduction, vendor qualification, and design engineering for cost reduction and ease of manufacturing and policing and protection of intellectual property.

She was also a partner, co-founder, and Chief Technology Officer of Evalutech, LLC. Her career has been devoted to understanding and improving the process of wealth creation through technological innovation. She has over 30 U.S. and international patents in her name covering diverse areas of mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering; 24 of these patents have been licensed to Fortune 100 companies.

Ms. Durand has gained significant knowledge in determining what is required for a new technology to become a commercial success. Her credentials include: founding Sublimation Systems Inc. Division of Chomerics Woburn MA, the pioneer of four color four-color printing of dyes; co-founder of Key-Tech Inc., the pioneer of engineered plastic dye infusion, and co-founder of Poly-Flex Circuits Inc., the pioneer in flexible polymer die attach circuit boards. Ms. Durand attended the University of Rhode Island and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

SPEAKER:
Gloria Ro Kolb,
President and Founder of Fossa Medical, has a business and technical background with an MBA from Babson College, and mechanical engineering degrees MIT and Stanford University.

Gloria has developed medical products from concept to launch and holds seven patents for her innovative designs in the field. She has been at least semi-finalist in four business plan competitions including winning the Douglass prize in 2001. Gloria was voted as one of Boston’s “40 under 40” in 2003 and was most recently voted as one of MIT’s Technology Review’s “World’s Top Innovators under 35.”

Fossa Medical creates innovative medical devices that keep small body passageways open and unobstructed in urology. Fossa Medical was named as one of Fortune Small Business’ “14 Hot Startups” of the year in 2003.
