Storytelling - Sharing Stories that transformed our thinking - resulting in very different outcomes. One of the great Keynotes at WITI's Las Vegas Conference
By Carolyn Leighton, Founder, Chairwoman, CEO of WITI
I have always loved to read. My love of reading started when I was in elementary school. My parents would not allow a television in our home until, when I was about 16, a couple of my brothers bought them one as a gift.
Until then, I spent countless hours reading at home and at the local library. I loved the librarians - they were kind, intelligent and helpful - just like my mother.
Wim Roelands, CEO of Xilinx, knowing my love for good books and business recommended I read Clicks and Mortar - Passion driven growth in an Internet Driven World. Great book by David Pottruck.
One of the many gems David shared in that book was the fact that Schwab found Storytelling the most effective way to train their people. Of course, I thought, what a creative idea - I just loved it! Who among us does not love to share and listen to a good story? So, every since that time, I knew I wanted to create WITI Storytelling.
WITI is launching our first Storytelling Sessions at our Las Vegas Conference. Roundtables led by leaders will share the experiences that transformed their thinking and resulted in very different outcomes.
The more I think about our Storytelling Sessions, the more excited I get - because of the outcomes I know will occur:
1. Shared wisdom - my philosophy is that if you know something that can help improve someone's life, it is your (and mine) responsibility to share it.
2. Building a platform to allow each of us to see each other in a real way - not based on how we look, but the passion inside our souls; and
3. Relationship Building - The women (and men) who attend WITI conferences are there to expand their relationships because they understand that everything works around relationships - who gets promoted, who gets the contract, who gets hired, and soon.
