Hewlett-Packard's Lew Platt has actively led and championed HP's diversity initiatives since he became CEO in 1992. As part of his effort to make HP the best place to work, one of his most important goals has been increasing the diversity of HP's workforce, with special emphasis on women and minorities in the upper echelons of management. He continually communicates his vision of diversity at all employee and senior management meetings when he visits HP sites around the world.

Lew Platt encouraged the establishment of a Diversity Leadership Council of influential senior managers, actively participates in their meetings and supports their recommendations. HP-and the company as a whole - has metrics for monitoring success in achieving diversity. All HP managers are provided with a Diversity Accountability Framework which includes expected behaviors, actions and performance measures. Lew Platt is an advocate of all HP programs that encourage women, from kindergarten through Ph.D. programs, to become more technologically literate.
