Charles Schwab and David PottruckCharles Schwab and David S. Pottruck Co-CEOs
Charles Schwab and Co., Inc.

Charles R. Schwab and David S. Pottruck - co-chief executive officers of The Charles Schwab Corporation - are hailed by their employees for creating an environment in which people can get ahead based on their talent and accomplishments as well as their ability to learn and grow. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, they have established a track record for promoting diversity in the workplace. Thirty-eight percent of Schwab's total workforce and 28 percent of Schwab's senior management team are female. Four women sit on Schwab's management committee and 41 percent of Schwab's vice presidents are female.

Because The Charles Schwab Corporation creates an environment that is inclusive and full of opportunity, it has attracted many women to its Schwab Information Technology Enterprise (SITE) . From a technological standpoint, 38 percent of all information technology jobs at the company are held by a woman and a third of the officers in SITE are female.

The company has always been guided by high ideals, progressive principles and a strong sense of integrity. One of the cornerstones on which The Charles Schwab Corporation was founded in 1973 is respect for fellow employees and the power of teamwork. To reflect these values, the company established a Diversity Task Force, a Diversity of Styles Program and several Employee Networks and Resource Groups. The company supports internships for high school students, entry programs for new college graduates and an inter-company mentoring program.

In addition, the company has generated a number of programs that enhance the lives of employees. These include the Women's Interactive Network, which sponsors training, speakers and seminars on women's issues; Starting Right, a pregnancy support program; and a Dependent Care Expense Account. Other forward-thinking policies include a return to work program for new mothers, leave for new fathers as well as new mothers, and a reimbursement program for expenses of employees who are adopting children. Other programs assist with elder care, alternative work schedules, health and well-being.

The Charles Schwab Corporation also actively recruits through groups that promote diversity in hiring, such as the National Society of Black Engineers and Women In Technology International.
