Sol Trujillo is chairman, president and chief executive officer of U S WEST, Inc.

Trujillo became president and CEO of U S WEST in June 1998, when the U S WEST Communications Group, the telecommunications and data networking unit, and MediaOne, the cable and international business unit, were separated into two free-standing companies. Previously, he was president and CEO of U S WEST Communications Group.

Under Trujillo's leadership, U S WEST has led the telecommunications industry in its deployment of high-speed data services and advanced wireless services. U S WEST, which had 1999 revenues of $13.2 billion, leads the industry in deploying next-generation broadband ADSL and VDSL Internet access and data/video services; offers the nationıs first and only Œone-numberı advanced wireless service that integrates customersı home or business phones with their wireless PCS; and provides multimedia advertising services, including Internet and print. The company has several product firsts including the most aggressive deployment of high-speed data solutions of any local exchange company.

Former Presidential Science Advisor Jay Keyworth has called Trujillo "the first true digital telecom CEO." Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros has called him "the most important Hispanic in Corporate America today."

Trujillo, 48, began his career as a business forecaster in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1974 and has held a variety of positions in marketing, operations and public policy throughout his telecommunications career, and at 32 became the youngest officer in Mountain Bell history. He served as president and CEO of U S WEST Marketing Resources, the company's directory publishing business, and headed U S WEST Small Business Services. Trujillo serves on the corporate boards of Target Corporation, PepsiCo and Bank of America. He is governor of the World Economic Forum for the information technology industry and is a member of the National Security Telecommunications Council.

He is active in numerous community activities and is the recipient of national and local service awards including being named one of the 100 most influential Latinos in the nation by Hispanic Business Magazine.

Trujillo holds an undergraduate degree in business and an MBA from the University of Wyoming.
