Sandy Carter, the vice president at Amazon Web Services who boasts a spot on "CNN" magazine’s Top 10 Women in Technology, yields a multifaceted career path that covers skills in management, sales, and development. Approaching her twentieth year working in marketing and consulting, Sandy highly values social media and its beneficial applications to business. Her projects have led to Web 2.0 technology being more widely used for social media and in pedaling businesses.
After working in the Bay Area as an advisor for multiple companies including Betagig, MentorCloud, SmartVizX, and Internet of Things Community for several months, Sandy now leverages Microsoft assets at her job at Amazon Web Services.
She began working there in April and now aids the performance and security of various Microsoft applications backed up by AWS. Sandy is also chairperson of the board at Girls in Tech, Inc. where she started in 2015. At Girls in Tech, she works to accelerate the growth of women entering the high-tech industry and the start-up community.
Sandy converged her technical and marketing skills as the CEO of Silicon Blitz in October 2016 and of SaaS earlier that year. She managed businesses with worths over $1 billion and pioneered new technologies to market IoT, AI, and SOA.
From 2000 to 2016, Sandy held positions at IBM covering different sectors. Finishing up in 2016 as a general manager for ecosystems and startups for three years, she also had gigs like CMO of WebSphere, Tivoli, and eCommerce. Sandy gained experience leading marketing turnarounds of business results and improving positive press and reports, and she added a net of over 76% of revenue throughout IBM.
In 1999, Sandy jump-started her career as a marketing consultant for the NBA in Boston for two months. As she began to build awareness and programs to target basketball products for women, she realized the importance of using tech and social media for marketing activities and services.
Sandy published her latest book, "Get Bold: Using Social Media to Create a New Type of Social Business," in 2012. She is the first woman to have published a social media framework book; in 2008 she came out with "The New Language of Marketing 2.0: How to Use ANGELS to Energize Your Market." Sandy also published "The New Language of Business" and "The New Language of Marketing 2.0" in 2009.
Along with her numerous publications, Sandy is the winner of over seven awards in the tech and marketing industries. In March 2017, she was presented with the Game Changer Award from PBWC and a Top SXSW Influencer in the same month.
The year prior, she gained a title on the 2016 "Forbes" Digital Influencer list. For her years working at IBM, Sandy was awarded the Platinum MarCom Award and the Silver MarketingSherpa Award and was later recognized by companies outside her brand. She won the title of Most Influential Woman in Technology by "Fast Company."
Sandy also proved herself powerful with titles like Social Media Star and Woman of Excellence by NAFE and Brand Leader of the Year by the World Brand Congress. She was also allotted space on Altimeter Group’s Top 10 in Social Media.
Sandy began her career at Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. She graduated with an MBA in managing technology and marketing from Harvard Business School in 1989. Alongside pursuing a career in pushing Web 2.0 social media strategy and marketing, Sandy presently fills time mentoring students at Girls in Technology and Girls in Tech, Inc. teaching the next generation of women how to code, efficiently market, and strategize.
