Judith Estrin is a co-founder of Packet Design and was chief technology officer for Cisco Systems. Beginning in 1981, Estrin co-founded three other successful technology companies: Bridge Communications, Network Computing Devices, and Precept Software. She became Cisco’s chief technology officer until April 2000.
In May 2000, Judith co-founded Packet Design, after leaving her previous job at Cisco. In 1998, Cisco acquired Precept, one of her tech companies, and chose her to become Cisco's chief technology officer—a position she held for two years.
That same year, she also was drafted to the board of directors of the Walt Disney Company, which is a position she held over 15 years. In 1995 and 1994, respectively, she joined the board of directors at Sun Microsystems and Rockwell Corporation, as well.
In 1989, she began to serve on the board of directors at FedEx, a position she filled for 21 years. Judith received the GIL Award from Frost and Sullivan for her outstanding work and her innovation and leadership capabilities.
In 1987, Judith was awarded the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award for her efforts to create new businesses, and enhance her entrepreneurial opportunities in the Northern California region.
Judith began her career at Zilog Corporation after her college graduation, doing work on Z8 and Z8000 microprocessors.
Judith is the author of "Closing the Innovation Gap," published in September 2008, and has been named three times to Fortune’s list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in American Business. She is also a current member of the advisory council of Stanford’s School of Engineering and Stanford’s Bio X initiative.
She holds a bachelor’s of science in math and computer science from UCLA and a master’s in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
