Evi Dube
Project leader, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories

Evi Dube grew up as an Army brat, and has lived in many different places in the United States and Europe. Being yanked from one school system to another not only taught her to focus on her studies, but gave her confidence in meeting new situations, which has served her well in her life and career. Her father (an electrical engineer) and her mother gave her the emotional support to move into careers unusual for women.

After taking a computer programming class in the 10th grade, Evi knew that she wanted to work in scientific simulation. She wrote a letter to the University of Arizona's Engineering Department specifying her interest, and they turned her on to Engineering Mathematics, with an emphasis on scientific programming. After completing her bachelor's degree, she started work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories in 1984, and has worked her way up to project lead for the computer science effort for a large 3D simulation system. Besides keeping busy with a full-time technical position, Evi worked on her dream, to earn a Ph.D. in Computational Science from the University of California, Davis, and recently completed her degree after 9.5 years.

Evi keeps her mental and physical health in shape by hiking the surrounding hills of the Bay Area with her dog, camping with her husband and relaxing in her hot tub overlooking the Tri Valley. She stays active working on the Expanding Your Horizon's Conferences, and was the co-chair for the 1996 Tri Valley conference.
