There is a small but growing group of people who are beginning to recognize that finances are about more than just math. While the numbers are important, if money were that simply than there would be no debt, marital arguments, or financial upset of any type. Everyone would do exactly what needs to be done in order to live a financially fulfilling life. Unfortunately only a small percentage of people live a financially fulfilling life no matter how much money they have. Money and its emotional component remains one of the last great taboos. Money is so emotionally charged it is not considered polite to talk about money or discuss personal finances other than with close family members. Most, if not all, money problems are internally driven by negative attitudes and beliefs about money. Some characteristics of problematic money behaviors are listed below.

1. Overspending, no matter how much money you may have or don't have

2. Hoarding money, no matter how much you have or don't have

3. Having anxiety about spending money, no matter have much you have or don't have

4. Arguing with your spouse and others about money

5. Using money to buy love, status, approval, etc.

6. Cycling up and down with money, that is, making and losing money continuously

7. Blaming your boss, parents, etc for your financial circumstances

8. Worrying about having enough money

9. Expressing anger or upset about the financial past

10. Having an unreasonable debt to income ratio

If you exhibit more than three of the behaviors listed above, then it is time to look inside at your internal attitudes and beliefs about money.
