WITI Success Story: Randy Parsons & RLP and Associates
Randy Parsons, a WITI participant since its inception, can vouch for what WITI stands for: building, empowering and inspiring women in business and technology. For both Randy and her company, RLP and Associates, WITI has been the key to success. The real story revolves around Randy's encounter with a WITI member a few months ago, a coach who has helped Randy to refocus her company and achieve her business dream. Recognizing the potential of networking through WITI, Randy attended WITI events in L.A., and it was at one of these events where she met Deborah Gallant. Deborah is a coach with her own company, "Lifework Catalyst". When they met, Randy had already launched RLP and Associates and had encountered obstacles formidable enough to make her consider returning to Corporate America. One of the main problems Randy faced early in her new business was that she offered services requiring hard-to-find skills for the deliverables and didn't incorporate her own core expertise. Years back, RLP and Associates started as a graphic design company which Randy had on the side to exercise her creative abilities. In February of 2004, Randy decided to re-launch it as a sales strategy company, using her unique combination of skills and abilities in sales, marketing and design. Despite all the contacts that Randy had developed in sales, she didn't quite have a potential client list that would keep her business up and running. By the time Randy met Deborah, Randy was frustrated and overwhelmed with RLP and Associates. Instead of just telling Randy what she should be doing for her business, Deborah assessed Randy's skills and helped her realize where her specific strengths were. After 23 years in high tech sales, generating over $80 million dollars in revenue for companies such as Burroughs Corp., Atex Media Solutions, Platinum Technology, Computer Associates and BEA Systems, Randy had established a strong relationship with sales and marketing. Her ability to translate complex ideas into business solutions, her education in the market and her rich network of contacts put her in a unique position to assist emerging companies with less robust sales expertise. Deborah helped Randy refocus on this target market of emerging companies, and as a result, Randy transformed RLP and Associates into a company that helps smaller or emerging businesses with their sales strategies. Targeting a specific market where Randy can be most effective has been key to RLP and Associates' recent success, and Randy now has a growing list of clients, many of which she has met through WITI. Networking remains a critical component to Randy's continued triumph. After the recent WITI-L.A Holiday Party, a friend approached Randy with news of a potential client for RLP and Associates, and Randy is now busy sending off sales assistant proposals. Randy considers herself a converted advocate of coaching and an even stronger supporter of WITI. She regularly refers back to Deborah, recommends Deborah to other WITI women and owes much of RLP and Associates' recent success to Deborah's coaching advice. She continues to use the WITI Network as a resource for potential clients. WITI has not only been there for Randy as a support system, but it is actually a tool for her business since WITI, just like Randy, is there for women at the launch of their empires.
