Records Management and Emerging Technology: How to find the right balance

The constantly evolving world of technology has altered the practice of records management. This session will explore some of the recent technologies like cloud computing, mobile technology, and social media and the impact they have on records management. Additionally, recent regulatory changes like European privacy laws or in-country retention requirements that also create major technology challenges.

Mr Utiger is an Associate Partner in Business Analytics and Optimization practice in IBM Global Business Services. His focus within the practice is to delivery advanced enterprise content management solutions including records management, eDiscovery, content federation, and content analytics.

Prior to his current position, Mr Utiger was the President of Data Empowerment Group, Inc., a company that he founded in 2001. A start-up company that has designed, developed, and taken to market a variety of records management solutions. Additionally, Data Empowerment provided records governance consulting to large and mid-sized corporations.

Before launching his own company, Mr Utiger worked at a variety of organizations including ZANTAZ, Charles Schwab, and Pacific Gas & Electric where he provided enterprise content management solutions. These projects included records management, building an email archive, building and managing print output archives (aka COLD).

Mr Utiger began his career in records management right here in beautiful Southern Nevada. His very first job at the tender age of 16 was as a microfilm technician in the Clark County records management department.
