In order for Analytics to be applicable within an organization, there must be a defined set of metrics that measure your business. The process of understanding and documenting the key business metrics within an organization is one of the more challenging tasks leaders have. It is not uncommon for the process of defining measurements to take place over a few years of trial and error, before reaching the higher-quality analytics desired.

IT is frequently tasked with helping the business define their Analytics, and it can be a daunting task that requires IT to have a full understanding of the business’s data and how to manage it. Alignment between what the business’s vision is and how the moving parts that make it operate is essential, however, building metrics around the moving parts is tricky. At C2 we have been using Visualization techniques at the Discovery and Requirements phase to shorten the understanding and alignment process. If you can't visualize the data in your mind, then IT can't build it.
