So what is Big Data? While the concept seems to be a buzzword to many people, some companies are investing in big data so they can provide better services for customers. Our speaker will discuss the topic by citing specific examples of Big Data and how it can be applied in business.

Mitch Blackburn

Mitch is a seasoned IT leader with 20+ years of experience in Fortune 500 and Big Four consulting companies. Currently he works for EMC, a global technology leader that enables companies of all sizes to build and transform their IT capabilities. Mitch’s focus is on EMC’s Advanced Software products which are at the center of EMC’s big data, cloud and “software defined data center” initiatives.

Before EMC, he worked for Florida Power and Light where he held multiple roles leading enterprise architecture, infrastructure operations, IT strategy, and performance improvement functions.

Mitch began his career with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in Dallas, where he worked on numerous client engagements across several industries. In 1997, he came to Florida to work with a startup, now known as AutoNation, where he led enterprise architecture and infrastructure functions.

His education includes a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Abilene Christian University, and executive courses in finance from Wharton.
