After having facilitated over 2000 Gender Awareness Workshops, I have collected many opinions, from men and women alike, who have consistently expressed a gender gap in their experiences of day-to-day business. These challenges seem far removed from the typical gender issues of the past. Today, workshop participants want to build partnerships and congruence between women and men, but frequently face obsticles to establishing those partnerships.

It doesn't take more than a few seconds for the women attending a workshop to begin listing these challenges on a flip chart. The discussion is hot, rich, intense and enlivening. End Bad Hair Days by Balancing your Fatty-Acids

"Do you have a fatty-acid imbalance?"

I was consulting my friend, Natalie Elliott, about nutrition. She is a clinical nutritionist, and the owner of Brainwaves Music and Wellness, here in Austin.

"What is a fatty-acid imbalance? Is it related to those Omega-3 fatty acids which we hear so much about?" I asked. "Yes," she replied.

"How do you know if you have an imbalance?" I asked. She said that skin and hair can be indicators; if you have dry or scaly skin, soft or brittle nails, or unmanageable hair, you just might have a fatty-acid imbalance. Who would have thought that a fatty-acid imbalance could cause bad-hair days? Other indicators include excessive thirst, frequent infections, poor wound healing, dry eyes, irritability, hyperactivity, weakness, or fatigue. Women on the Move

Donna Shirley Named Director of Science Fiction Museum: Acclaimed Engineer Joins Experience Science Fiction; James Cameron, George Lucas, Majel Roddenberry, Stephen Spielberg and Others Join Museum Advisory Board

Experience Science Fiction (ESF), the world's first science fiction museum, has announced that Donna Shirley has joined the institution as its director. She will oversee the creative, programs and operations teams at the museum, which is scheduled to open this summer. Founded by investor and philanthropist Paul G. Allen and co-located next to Experience Music Project in Seattle, ESF will provide thought-provoking and entertaining exhibit experiences that inspire appreciation of science fiction's history, creativity and contributions, while at the same time recognizing notable science fiction creators and their creations. Included in the exhibit will be works by Isaac Asimov, Ursula Le Guin, H.G. Wells, Arthur C. Clarke, Ray Bradbury, Gene Rodenberry, Octavia Butler and Steven Spielberg, to name a few.

"I'm so excited to come on board at ESF - especially given the broad role that science and science fiction play in people's lives," said Donna Shirley. "Science fiction is a dynamic and thought-provoking genre that engages young and old alike, and encourages participation and interest in "real" science. From physics and astronomy to biology and anthropology, science inspires science fiction and vice versa - and science literacy is key in the worlds of today and tomorrow."

A science-fiction fan since age 11, Shirley has more than 40 years of experience in aerospace and civil systems engineering, including 30 years in management. She retired in August 1998 from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory where she managed the billion-dollar Mars Exploration Program. This position culminated a 32-year career at JPL where she worked on missions to every planet except Pluto. Prior to becoming manager of the Mars program, Shirley managed the team that built Sojourner, the microrover which landed with Mars Pathfinder on the surface of Mars on July 4, 1997. In 2000/2001 Shirley was appointed as the official spokesperson for the White House Mars Millennium Project, now called "Imagine Mars." Shirley has an M.S. degree in aerospace engineering, as well as numerous management awards, including three honorary doctorates.

The successful candidate will perform routine engineering assignments and provide basic technical assistance in support of senior engineers, and participate on teams. Successful candidate will provide information and recommendations on routine assignments. The successful candidate will assess distribution system reliability performance using recorded circuit outage data.
