Open A Door Honors WITI Advisory Board Member Dr. Cheemin Bo-Linn with SHE-DOES: Women Changing the World Award

San Rafael, CA, October 13, 2015 - Over the last 30 years Dr. Bo-Linn has been a technology trailblazer who has committed to supporting women and girls along the way. Her commitment has been to lay the foundation for young girls to choose tech careers as well as eliminate roadblocks so women can advance in their careers. Cheemin says, "I just want the generations of girls that are coming up to have options."

Open A Door Foundation will honor Dr. Cheemin Bo-Linn with SHE-DOES: Women Changing the World Award on October 29th in San Francisco.

Cheemin was the "first in” to the world of big data and cyber security, before we even knew what it is. As one of the most influential women in tech she has influenced the development of numerous new innovations and companies. Cheemin is a role model for generations of women. In June 2015, she was inducted into the "Hall of Fame for Women in Science and Technology,” a program supported by President Clinton’s administration.

Also, under her leadership, over $2M was quickly raised for community programs with the YWCA Silicon Valley. One successful program is TechGYRLS, aimed toward raising young women up from marginalized communities through STEM education and the promotion of STEM-focused careers. Cheemin says, "When generations work together, we inspire and learn from each other and make ‘our’ dreams a reality.”

Cheemin Bo-Linn is CEO and President of Peritus Partners, Inc., a global business consulting group recognized for leading companies to market dominance and increasing valuation. Prior, she was IBM Vice President and currently serves on the board of directors of both public and private companies.

Open A Door (OAD) is a Bay Area based non-profit that builds female global leadership by helping disadvantaged girls from post conflict countries win US scholarships and return as change agents. As our world continues to get smaller, raising a global generation of capable and gutsy female leaders is critical to systemic change. That’s why Open A Door seeks out smart, ambitious, low-income young women in post-conflict countries, such as Rwanda, Afghanistan and Cambodia and provides them with a U.S. college education, mentorship and leadership training. Our mentors support each scholar through every step of her transformative journey — from securing a scholarship to thriving in school to finding her voice. All 20 are studying at top schools, such as Bennington, Bucknell, Harvard, Lafayette, Oberlin, Smith, and Whitman. www.openadoorfoundation.org
