WITI South Florida Regional Network
Cyber Security and Social Media

Monday, May 18, 2015
6:00 pm

Please join WITI for our next meeting at Miami's premier location for Tech Start Ups, Venture Hive! In this session, our speaker, Enrique Gutierrez, from Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit (DCU), will share how DCU is committed to identifying and disrupting cyber crime across the globe while protecting our privacy. You do not want to miss this informative meeting concerning the issues surrounding Cyber Security and Social Media!

Also note that we will be giving away a Dell Venue Pro! So, don't forget to preregister for a chance to win! If you have any issues preregistering, please contact us using the email on this meeting notice.

Key issues to be discussed:

Microsoft does not believe that cyber security operates in a silo. People, governments and the industry must combat digital threats together. Cyber security is no longer a subject just for IT. Today, the topic has a prominent seat in every boardroom. What’s at stake ranges from customer privacy, brand identity, to an executive’s reputation. People can lose money, businesses can lose customers, and companies can lose trade secrets, intellectual property and their competitive edge.

Microsoft is also committed to protecting the most vulnerable among us from technology related crimes, scams and fraud. A significant area of focus has been on-line distribution of child exploitation materials. The scale of the problem is massive and Microsoft feels it’s their responsibility to aggressively address these crimes.

Finally, privacy is a fundamental human right that should not be given away. The definition of privacy among the younger generation of technology users is evolving. They are willing to share personal information through social media while still longing for privacy. Microsoft engages this organic response to the need for transparency.
