Launching 2006 at CES!
by Amber Dalton (Athena Twin PMS)
WITI and Pandora's Mighty Soldiers (PMS Clan) began 2006 with a bang at the 2006 Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in America's favorite playground, fabulous Las Vegas. On Thursday morning, Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the producer of CES, delivered an inspiring and exciting State of the Industry Address. Shapiro discussed the breadth of the current consumer electronics market, with the average U.S. home owning approximately 25 consumer electronics products. Not really a surprise to the tech-addicted gamer girls of PMS Clan!
After spending the first day of the show with a project promoting Microsoft 64 and all the cool things 64-bit processing can do for graphic design, photography, movies & video games, it was time to experience what the show was really all about: all the wonderful toys!
From engaging new cell phone technologies and accessories, to the latest in audio, digital imaging, and home theater, tech paradise was found on many a shelf. This year, customization seemed to be the key trend, with plenty of ways to accessorize your gaming, cell, and laptop components.
Members of PMS Clan were especially excited about the gaming booths, heading right for the Microsoft booths to play all the new XBOX 360 games. They also found many PC games to like at the ATI & NVIDIA booths. A particular highlight was at the BENQ booth, where Kornelia, possibly the best female Quake player, was graciously (and amazingly) showcasing Quake. At the WITI & PMS Clan Media & VIP Party, PMS Clan members were able to showcase their gaming skills and introduce the gaming world to the party guests. Even Dr. Natalie Petouhouff gave it a shot (literally). We think she quite enjoyed it! As PMS Clan members trucked around the last day of the event, they began to digest the barrage of information that is CES. From new technologies, new gadgets, and new friends, they deemed the event a success.
So what was PMS Clan doing at CES, you might wonder? To learn more about the industry, products, and people. But also to help promote WITI's fundamental goal: the recognition and validation of females in technology fields and markets. Gamers are just one aspect of this wonderful group, which also includes all of WITI's members and supporters who make the digital community such more welcoming of all women. PMS Clan looks forward to making WITI proud in the 2006 tournament season and appreciates WITI's support in getting women gamers out of the gaming closet and into the events & competitions!
