ASOCIA Executives on Gender Diversity in the Boardroom & Building a Pipeline of Women Candidates

Gender diversity in the boardroom is an issue of increasing interest for shareholders of U.S. corporations. It is also a primary interest of ASOCIA Executives, Atlanta-based Executive Search firm, Founded by Cynthia Coker. Ms. Coker is the CEO of ASOCIA Executives, and she is also the founder of ASOCIA Executives' initiative, Women To Boards.

Ms.Coker founded Women To Boards in 2011, since a primary focus of ASOCIA Executives is board placement and advisory services. ASOCIA Executives is also a woman-owned firm that knows firsthand the challenges women experience in obtaining positions at the executive level and on corporate boards.

"We founded Women To Boards as we do have a focus on diversity and female executive placement both in senior executive level and board positions, and as women, we are passionate about this issue," said Coker."We have also been surprised at the issue some extremely talented, senior-level women executives are having in obtaining board positions."

"We often hear from corporations and others that the pipeline of qualified women is not strong enough," Adds Coker. "Conversely, we see women that may not take the initiative to look into being on a board or they don't know where to begin. The main purpose of our Women To Boards initiative is to proactively build a pipeline so we have candidates for our clients when they need them. We also offer mentorship programs with other corporate board members and executives to assist our candidates in becoming board ready. There are also other great organizations such as the Board of Directors Network(BDN), a nonprofit research and advisory organization in Atlanta, that offers programs to assist women in becoming board ready."

ASOCIA Executives provides services globally, with offices in Atlanta, New York City, San Francisco, and Paris, France. Coker travels between offices to works with clients in each region. Coker hopes by ASOCIA Executives and others offering services and programs to help coach women and connect them with the right board opportunities, we can bridge the gap and make a difference, one seat at a time.
