"You don't need a title to make an impact. Just show up with intention, stay curious, and be kind." That's Katherine Soto's north star - and it's guiding a new generation of tech leaders.

Quick ID

Name: Katherine Soto

Title: Global Projects, PSO | Chair, Women at Quest ERG

Company: Quest | Consulting Services

HQ: United States

Founded: 2000

Employees: 1,000+

Origin Story: From HR Intern to Project Dynamo

Katherine Soto never planned to work in tech. With a psychology and business background, she envisioned a career built on human connection rather than deadlines and deliverables. Then, during her final year at university, an HR internship changed everything.

"I discovered how much I loved working with people, understanding team dynamics, and contributing to projects that actually mattered," Soto recalls.

That passion for people became her competitive advantage. When a major project opportunity arose - despite her lack of experience - she embraced it. With strong mentors and a willingness to learn quickly, she built expertise one project at a time.

Today, as a leader in resource management at Quest, Soto's work blends logistics with human insight: aligning talent with projects, streamlining workflows, and keeping collaboration central to everything.

"It's fast-paced, people-driven, and constantly evolving - exactly the kind of environment where I thrive."

Inflection Point #1: Saying Yes to the Unexpected

Soto's transition into project-based work wasn't calculated - it was instinctual. "I didn't have much experience," she admits, "but I had exceptional mentors and a strong support system."

That unplanned pivot became her launching pad. She discovered that people-focused instincts translate directly into project success. "Understanding how people work together is fundamental to any successful delivery."

Her advice for anyone facing a similar crossroads? Don't wait for perfect qualifications - follow your instincts and build from there.

Inflection Point #2: Embracing Global ERG Leadership

As Chair of the Women at Quest Employee Resource Group, Soto has stepped into a global leadership role that extends far beyond her job description.

"It felt like a meaningful way to create space for authentic conversations," she explains. "I may not have had traditional leadership experience, but I cared deeply - and sometimes, that's exactly where leadership begins."

Her commitment to inclusion extends beyond the workplace. Soto volunteers with a foundation supporting athletes with visual disabilities, autism, and other conditions. "Giving back keeps me grounded," she says. "This ERG role is simply another way I live that value within my workplace."

Inflection Point #3: Redefining Leadership

For Soto, leadership isn't about commanding - it's about caring. "Leading the ERG has shown me that leadership isn't about having all the answers," she reflects. "It's about listening, staying grounded, and showing up with empathy and intention."

Whether she's spotlighting employee stories or organizing casual coffee chats with no agenda, she's transforming how people engage with their work community.

"Small moments matter - checking in, celebrating progress, being present. These build trust as much as the big wins do. It's not always about big gestures - it's about how we show up every day."

Impact Now: Scaling Belonging, One Connection at a Time

Under Soto's leadership, the Women at Quest ERG has expanded its reach and deepened its impact - evolving from a strong foundation into an even more vibrant, people-centered community. By prioritizing authenticity, her team has unlocked meaningful engagement.

"We keep it light, meaningful, and real," she says. "No pressure, just presence. That's what makes people want to participate."

And participate they do. Across regions and roles, team members are building connections that extend far beyond the ERG, fostering inclusion throughout the organization. Having a core team that's genuinely committed has been key. We lead with heart, not just strategy - and that genuine dedication makes people feel safe to show up, speak up, and take part.

Soto's Playbook: Rules to Lead By

  • Lead from anywhere. You don't need a title to make a difference - just intention and empathy.

  • Stay curious. Inclusion begins by asking who's missing and why.

  • Celebrate small wins. Progress happens in quiet moments, not just presentations.

  • Build trust through consistency. People need presence, not just policies.

  • Remain authentic. Authenticity creates safety, which drives genuine engagement.

  • Future Forward: Building a Human-Centered Tech World

Soto's vision for the future of tech leadership is fundamentally human-centered.
"Inclusion is finally becoming part of the conversation in a meaningful way," she observes. "It's not just about who's at the table, but how we're building the table together."

She's cautiously optimistic about AI's potential role. "If we maintain our people-centered approach, AI can enhance how we collaborate, solve problems, and make information more accessible - without sacrificing the human touch that makes leadership meaningful."
