June 10, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm • San Carlos / San Juan

Cannabis is now legal in 29 states for medical usage; 17 states have passed laws specific for the usage of Cannabidiol (CBD); and 9 states have made it legal for recreational usage. In addition, 23 states have passed laws decriminalizing certain marijuana possession offenses. We're seeing numerous scientific, medical, economic, and tax revenue studies and results showing positive outcomes on all fronts with the states. More so: significant number of research studies have demonstrated that usage of marijuana is not the "gateway drug" to illicit drugs or criminal activity. The most that was demonstrated is increase in purchase of snack foods.

Yet every day, folks ask questions, especially in states where it is legal for recreational usage:
*How would working for a cannabis company affect my resume?
*If I put cannabis-related businesses and associates on my LinkedIn profile, what will the police think?
*What happens at work now if I use cannabis and they require a drug test?
*If I invest in a cannabis business, how does this affect my other clients?

This panel is set up to answer questions about the professional aspects of cannabis and how to navigate the stigma, the fear factors, and the falsehoods. And more so, to help understand the value and importance of breaking these down - especially within communities.

Kesha Williams, Software Engineer, Chick-fil-A Corporate
June 11, 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm • Gateway Ballroom

Facial recognition is everywhere, from Facebook to security, gaming, stores, airports, etc. ... and its use is only growing. Facial recognition is popular because face images exist of almost everyone. There are driver's license photos, identity badges from wherever you work, library cards, warehouse club cards, social media, and the list goes on. The FBI has said that its database includes at least 4.3 million "civil images" - those taken for non-criminal purposes. With the advent of several open source facial recognition libraries, the technology will become even more commonplace than it is today.

Attend this session to learn about advances in facial recognition and what it means for your life 1 year, 5 years, and even 10 years from now. Attendees will be exposed to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Rekognition, while taking a peek under the hood at a real face detection system. Jim Malcolm, GM, HumanEyes Technologies
Gail Gessert, CEO, Gessert Media
June 11, 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm • Siskiyou

Consumers have embraced the digital era! They experience media on their phones, tablets, computers, and now with new technological advances, virtual reality (VR) devices. They no longer live in a linear, 2D world. Consumers are expecting more and more, and particularly from a 3-D environment. After a long history, the future of VR has new focus! How businesses and 3-D content creators can truly engage everyday consumers in VR is in some sense still elusive. At the same time, however, the industry is taking giant leaps forward. Regardless of the learning curve on just how to best use the technology, one thing is for sure: while the consumer is expecting more and more, VR as an industry will advance.

In this interview-style session, you'll hear and view, first hand, what defines "the realities" about VR. The focus will be on how VR is blossoming in its applications and why so many storytellers are now flocking to the medium. Industry examples and case studies with visuals will be shared, demonstrating how educators, corporations, entertainment, and social networks are building their businesses and brands through 3-D visual innovation. You'll leave this session with a foundation in Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) that will help you spawn ideas to implement your own future virtual reality projects.

303 - WITI PowerTalk - BRIDGING THE GROWING DIGITAL GENDER DIVIDE: BRINGING TECH TO WOMEN AND GIRLS, AND WOMEN TO TECH

Jennifer Ferguson-Mitchell, Spokesperson/Head of Media Relations, International Telecommunications Union, United Nations
June 12, 9:30 am - 9:40 am • Gateway Ballroom

In today's increasingly digital world, being "connected" can mean the difference between financial independence and poverty. New data shows that the digital gender divide is growing, leaving hundreds of millions of women around the globe unable to access and benefit from the life-changing social and economic resources available through digital connectivity. At the same time, women are vastly underrepresented in the tech industry, while a significant lack of financial investment in women tech entrepreneurs exists.
In response, ITU and UN Women partnered in 2016 to create the EQUALS Global Partnership - bringing more women to tech and more tech to women and girls. Today more than 50 companies, organizations, universities, research institutes and others are working together to make a difference. Ms Ferguson-Mitchell will share the latest data and actions being taken by ITU and EQUALS.
ITU is the specialized United Nations agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs), driving innovation in ICTs together with 193 Member States and a membership of nearly 800 private sector entities and academic institutions. It is the intergovernmental body responsible for coordinating the shared global use of the radio spectrum, promoting international cooperation in assigning satellite orbits, improving communication infrastructure in the developing world, and establishing the worldwide standards that foster seamless interconnection of a vast range of communications systems. From broadband networks to cutting-edge wireless technologies, aeronautical and maritime navigation, radio astronomy, oceanographic and satellite-based earth monitoring as well as converging fixed-mobile phone, Internet and broadcasting technologies, ITU is "committed to connecting the world."

103 - THE ALLY'S JOURNEY: 5 STEPS TO BECOMING AN INCLUSIONARY LEADER

Dale Vaughn, Co-Founder, Gender Leadership Group
June 10, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm • Cascade

How do we engage men as allies in the intersectional movement toward equality and inclusion? What can they do to help? What can you do? What do they need to do themselves?

Each ally sets out on a personal journey to understand their privilege so they can leverage it across levels of intersectionality. That can be uncomfortable at first, but often becomes extremely empowering. Each ally starts their learning with blind spots and unconscious biases, which they need to confront within a safe space and with supportive guidance instead of shame and blame. Each ally eventually uncovers the difference between intention and impact, expanding their capacity to own their impact while connecting to the experiences of others. From this empathy grow new tools, habits, connections, behaviors, and confidence in bringing more allies to the table. The ally's journey to becoming "woke" [socially aware] is a repeatable process, and everyone wins, so all we need to do is focus on building this system into our culture en masse. In this session, you will learn:

- How to recruit male allies to help end inequality in representation and leadership.
- Why "unconscious bias" training doesn't work by itself.
- How to change your conversation with male colleagues from shame and blame to safety and accountability.

Envision this: You've prepared for the board meeting thoroughly. Several peers have given the thumbs up. You walk into the room and begin to speak. Before you get through the introduction, you're derailed by someone in the meeting who appears to be interested in anything but your success... Or this scenario: you're working with an individual who can't take "no" for an answer. He lacks boundaries regarding your personal space, your time, and your work. Or, how about the explosive individual who overreacts verbally to the slightest feedback? Or the attention-seeker who takes all the credit and does minimal work?

If you relate to one or all of these situations, this workshop is for you. With a template for dealing with difficult people, we'll examine four difficult personality types. You'll learn how to apply time-tested communication strategies to manage these challenging personality types, be in charge of our own reactivity to difficult people, and facilitate positive outcomes in a timely fashion.
