Laura Karbarz serves as an example of using technology to achieve work / life balanc. Laura works at Microsoft and moved to part time work in her professional role. She will lead a discussion of the technology available to help achieve this balance regardless of part time or full time. She will also share the lessons she has learned in approaching the part time conversation with your manager, managing your career and reputation while working part time and full time, and how to change your mind set about yourself, career, and family while achieving the balance.

About Our Speaker(s)

Laura has worked for 21 years in the technology industry as a sales and consulting services executive. During Laura’s career she worked for Accenture, Whittman-Hart, Avanade, and Microsoft. She has advised numerous customers on technology benefits and application for maximizing business value and return on investment.

Laura started her career in the consulting industry as an application architect and developer evangelizing leading edge object-oriented technology. As a Senior Manager she led many large enterprise systems development and implementation projects including customer order systems for electric and gas utility customers, energy trading systems, customer care, and finance.

Laura became an internal IT Director, building a team of 60 people to deliver a $30M, fully integrated, information systems portfolio for Whittman-Hart. She became the CTO at Inwarehouse, a start up company in Houston. She was responsible for building Avanade’s initial business in the Houston marketplace. Laura worked extensively on crafting enterprise technology services deals and sold one of the largest outsourcing deals at Avanade.

Most recently Laura has continued to advise customers on Microsoft technology in her role as a Business Productivity Solution Specialist. She is responsible for the sale of business productivity software solutions in the Oil and Gas industry segment.

Laura is originally from Chicago, she and her husband Frank have lived in Houston for 9 years and have a two year old son. Laura graduated from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois with a B.S. degree in Computer Science. She is an avid tennis player and enjoys the outdoors often on a tandem bicycle with her husband and son.
