Ladders of Success: Mentoring and Leadership

There are many ropes that support a successful career. Mentoring has been a critical factor ensuring that the professional ladder can be climbed.
We have invited 3 guest speakers who are successful leaders in their field. They will discuss their climb to excellence and how mentoring has been important to their success.

Georgia-Pacific and WITI present opportunities for networking and setting up a mentoring relationship for its members.

Lisa Henry Horne - GP winner of National award for Leadership Excellence
Lisa joined GP in 1986 as a capacity-planning analyst. Lisa is now the IT manager in the Business Intelligence Center of Excellence. She has been instrumental in implementing new strategic direction in various corporate groups, including internal audit, shared accounting, human resources and corporate systems services. She is currently responsible for enterprise data management, leading the implementation of tools and practices to manage data as an asset. Also, she was the initial process advocate for IT Portfolio Management leveraging key IT partnerships to drive consistent approach to track projects and resources time.
Lisa currently represents Georgia-Pacific on a special education task force for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, which assists school systems throughout Georgia providing data management tools and guidance to implement the ‘No Child Left Behind’ Act. She serves as co-chair of our ServiceForce Steering Committee and as chair of the Interdenominational Women’s Conference. Lisa also participates in the Achievers Mentoring and Buddy programs at GP.

Denise Beckman -Manager of Market Data, Analytics and Analysis for IBM Americas
Denise Beckmann carries a Masters Certificate from George Washington University's School of Public Policy in Project Management. Denise attended the University of Minnesota and transferred to Georgia where she completed her Bachelors of Science from Reinhardt College in Business Administration. She has been involved in data warehouse projects on both the IT and Marketing sides including Manager of Technology Architecture and Manager of Marketing Information Systems during her 10 years with GTE Wireless. Her role at IBM focuses on use of data for a variety of statistical and analytical projects guiding sales and marketing targets and strategy decisions across North, Central and South America.
She is a strong advocate of mentoring, having managed her mentoring relationships in a company that is distributed across continents.

Susan Greger
Senior Director, information technology, winner of National award for Leadership Excellence

Susan joined Georgia-Pacific in 1983. She leads the Deskside and Remote Technical Services (DaRTS) center of excellence. Her organization is responsible for the personal computing environment across Georgia-Pacific and infrastructure support for 379 remote sites in North America. In addition, Susan is an active member of the IT Leadership Development Committee and the IT Planning Committee. During her tenure with GP, Susan has contributed to a number of IT areas, including application development, systems analysis, client services, infrastructure services, and strategy and planning. Outside GP, Susan earned an Executive MBA from Georgia State University. She is also active in her church, chairing the development of a 5-year strategic plan, serving on the finance committee and the flower guild.
