Be a part of the start! February 9th marks a big day, as WITI Orlando will be opening its doors during our first networking event!
During this inaugural meeting and networking opportunity, our speaker, Connie Smekens, will present an array of practical suggestions that will guide you in capitalizing on opportunities at work. She will discuss strategies for advancement such as how to:
- consistently exceed expectations
- develop a style which makes male (and female!) managers comfortable
- gaining valuable experience and expertise
WITI's mission is to provide a competitive advantage to women by giving us a way to access other women in technology. WITI is about inspiring and empowering women while building significant positive results in our professional lives. That is the mission of WITI and focus of our first meeting. Connie Smekens - Connie graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1987 with a B.A. in Legal Studies. She began her law firm career as a paralegal with one of Florida's largest law firms and practiced in the area of commercial litigation. During her years as a paralegal, she became proficient in the use of technology in a law firm and implemented practice specific software as a tool to create efficiencies in the legal field. In 1995, Connie joined Broad and Cassel, one of Florida's largest law firms, as their first Practice Group Coordinator. Her main responsibility was to research, evaluate and recommend software that would provide the firm with a competitive advantage while adding value to the services provided to its clients. After only one year with the Firm, she was appointed the Director of Technology Services, and today manages a group of 10 ten technology specialists throughout the state. In addition, over the last 2 1/2 years, she has served as the Director of Communications and Business Development and spearheads all of the Firm's coordinated marketing activities. She is an active member of the Association of Legal Administrators, LawNet and several other professional organizations. In addition to her busy professional life, Connie is the proud mother of two boys, Christopher and Matthew, ages 7 and 9.

Rollins College is located in downtown Winter Park, Florida, just 10 minutes north of downtown Orlando.
The driving directions below direct you to the SunTrust/Rollins parking garage, where we suggest that you park. The parking garage is just across the street from the main campus and the Bush Auditorium.
From Interstate 4:
I-4 to Fairbanks Avenue (Exit 87).
Turn east onto Fairbanks Avenue.
- This is a right turn if you were heading east on I-4.
- This is a left turn if you were heading west on 1-4.
Continue on Fairbanks for approximately 2 miles.
Turn left (north) onto Park Avenue, heading away from the Rollins campus.
Make the first right onto Comstock Avenue.
Proceed half a block and turn left into the SunTrust/Rollins Parking Garage.
To get to the campus, walk out of the garage on the Fairbanks Avenue (south) side.
Cross Fairbanks at the designated crosswalk, and follow the sidewalk to your left.
After you cross the street, there will be a large building directly in front of you. This is the Bush building. Veer left and enter the building at the second set of stairs.
