WITI Panel Discussion: Overcoming Difficult IT Challenges

WITI members and non-members are invited to attend an educational evening event featuring executives who played critical roles in managing significant IT conversion projects. Moderated by WITI executive director, Julie Harrelson, the following participants will share their experiences and provide a supportive forum for IT professionals who may be facing similar project challenges. Panelists include:
• Joni Kabana, AVP of Technical Infrastructure and program director, Standard Insurance
Challenge: EBIT customer blueprint project which entails infrastructure changes, a new application, and company culture changes.
• Arlene Krasner, Director of Hardware Systems Development for the IMS Division, Credence
Challenge: Overcoming the cultural and infrastructure issues of integrating Information Management Systems after the acquisition by Credence.
• Jo Anne Long, vice president and chief REMAC officer, The Regence Group
Challenge: Taking a critical step toward changing their operating environment from four independent plans to a single multi-state plan through the consolidation of their membership, billing, and claims systems into a single new system for the future.

Joni Kabana

Joni has been an IT professional for over 20 years, managing areas of application development, infrastructure, operations, and architecture strategy. Her current position is AVP of Technical Infrastructure and Program Director of Standard's re-engineering efforts. Joni’s unique skills entail organization development, cultural change agent and special task force initiator for corporate policies. She also held the post of Ethics Coordinator for western U.S. while at Nationwide Insurance. Joni has a strong interest in cultural diversity and has traveled extensively to countries such as Madagascar and Bhutan and published photography books.
Arlene Krasner
Director of Hardware Systems Development for the IMS Division
Credence
Arlene’s technical career began in the Silicon Valley as a Technical Writer at Mentor Graphics. From that beginning she moved into technical publications management and also began teaching and developing various technical communication classes. She became an active member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) and served as President of the local chapter. Arlene eventually moved into an engineering management role, managing an operations group that consisted of mechanical engineers, drafters, prototype assemblers, hardware engineers, and technical writers. Currently, she serves as the Director of Hardware Systems Development for the IMS division at Credence Systems.
Jo Anne Long
Vice President and Chief REMAC Officer
The Regence Group
Jo Anne is vice president and chief REMAC officer for The Regence Group. In addition to leading the company’s claims and membership system implementation project, she oversees its Enterprise Project Management Office. In the recent past, she was vice president and general counsel for Regence BlueShield in Washington. She also had accountability for overseeing Regence BlueShield’s member services and information technology operations and its “Members First, Always” initiative. Before then, Jo Anne was associate general counsel at Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, where she was a key leader of the company’s Y2K remediation project.

Directions: From Hwy 26 take exit 64/185th Ave., drive south about one mile to Walker Road. The CAPITAL Center is on the southwest corner of the intersection of 185th Ave. and Walker Rd. with entrances from both streets.
Turn right onto Walker road heading westbound, take the first left into the parking lot. Use building entrance A on the north side of the building, facing Walker Road
PARKING: Parking permits will be provided free of charge upon arrival. Please park in OUS/PCC parking lots only. These lots are on the northeast, east and south sides of the building. Please do not park in areas marked Barnhart Center. Vehicles parked in these lots are subject to towing. The OCATE Auditorium & office are just inside entrance A on the north side of the CAPITAL Center. Signs to the Auditorium will be posted inside the building.
