Let Your Voice Be Heard - Shopping for Technology Products

WITI and IDC invite you to participate in an important research study about purchasing technology products. This research will help technology vendors to develop, market, and sell technology products more effectively to you. The study will examine which technologies women are buying this holiday season and who they are buying them for. We want to hear about your shopping experience for technology products this holiday season!

To take this 15 minute survey, please visit http://www.witi.com/surveys/holiday05.php.

In appreciation of your time, all survey participants who are WITI members will automatically receive a 3-month extension to their membership and non-members will receive a 3-month membership. Survey results will be presented at WITI's 11th Silicon Valley Conference on December 8th in Los Angeles.

orange arrow  You can't live outside the box if you are always in it
By Alyse Hart

Alyse Hart If the morning alarm makes you hit the snooze button twice and dive under the covers, you're not alone. If the thought of commuting or going to the office makes you miserable, take heart. There's something you can do, but don't let anyone else know you're starting your own underground personal revolution today. Begin quietly putting your best interests front and center instead of putting the boss or company in the number one spot. Heresy? Not really -- just commit to doing your best work in the shortest amount of time and skip the non-productive stuff. Put that stuff on your "to don't" list. You'll be creating more leveraging power for yourself when you need it and freeing up time for yourself for a change.

orange arrow  In Memorium: Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks has been a source of inspiration to many of us at WITI, including our founder Carolyn Leighton. Her thoughts on Ms. Parks:

"I have no doubt many of you have thought about Rosa Parks many times, as I have. When I thought about Rosa Parks over the years, I thought about the enormous courage it took for one woman to refuse to give up her seat to a white man - in a bus of people who absolutely believed she, as a black woman, did not deserve to sit in a seat if some white person was standing. What courage! And yet, I am sure that Rosa gave herself a gift every time she decided to take a stand for what she believed, willing to take the consequences for her principle. We have many lessons to learn from Rosa Parks.

"The greatest homage each of us can pay to Rosa's memory is to make a commitment to take a stand for what is right and to take a stand for principle, even when we know these things are not popular."

orange arrow  Agents & Influencers: The Same yet Different
By Diane Krakora, President & CEO of Amazon Consulting, LLC.

Diane Krakora Businesses have always formed partnerships, but there are a few new models attracting more attention these days within technology industry - "Agent" and "Influencer" programs. These two types of partnerships are so often discussed in the same breath, that one begins to wonder, aren't they really the same? Close, but not exactly. The differences between agents and influencers is often overlooked when developing programs, however there is a difference in how they are motivated that must be taken into consideration.

orange arrow  It's Important To Keep Your Self-Image Updated
By Jane Herman

Jane Herman Who are you right now - this instant? What are you capable of?

What you think, how you interpret your situation, how you act, and the possibilities you see as available to you are all influenced by how you view yourself. When your self-image is out of date, then your feelings and actions are out of sync with reality and you experience unnecessary fears and anxiety, and repeat unsatisfying patterns of behavior. Learning how to keep your self-image up to date is a powerful tool that can free you from the constraints of the past.

orange arrow  WITI Boston in the News
The results of the recent survey conducted among WITI Boston members are in, and were recently published in Mass High Tech.

"Perhaps close to half the labor force (47 percent, according the U.S. Dept. of Labor's Women's Bureau 2004 statistics) is disgruntled. Below the surface, unspoken complaints range from feelings of being paid unfairly or not being promoted based on performance; to feeling that ideas and concerns are not heard or even recognized by those in charge; to experiencing hiring bias and, adding insult to injury, having no one to turn to in the organization for authentic mentoring."

orange arrow Upcoming Network Events:

"At a recent WITI Boston event, I met a former client from 10 years ago when I worked for another company. We sat together at the meeting and got re-acquainted. Since then, my former client has introduced me to several IT executives at their firm to generate interest in our services, which may lead to new business. This demonstrates that networking and participating in WITI events can have very positive results...both professionally and personally."
