Leadership & Politics: Mastering Politics in the Corporate Environment

History has proven that the critical element for success – and often survival - is political savvy. Indeed, the ability to manage organizational politics is a key leadership competency. In this interactive panel discussion, Executive Coach Pam Hedges, Sun Microsystems' Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Tammy Wong and Ingram Micro's VP of Finance Lisa Locklear will discuss the nature of corporate politics, how to assess the political landscape and what strategies and tactics are effective for women as emerging leaders and partners in complex business environments.

Pam Hedges, Principal, Hedges & Associates
Pam Hedges is a highly respected executive coach and career strategist engaged by forward-thinking companies and motivated individuals who are interested in developing leadership skills, achieving business goals, and developing productive business relationships. She has more than 20 years experience in the fields of executive coaching, career consulting, and leadership development.

As a Certified Professional Coach, Pam's clients count on her as a trusted advisor, dedicated to the successful integration of individual and business goals. She is an assessment expert, certified in numerous leadership and personality instruments, including a range of multi-source feedback surveys.

Tammy Wong, Ph.D., Chief Strategy Officer, Sun Microsystems
Dr. Tammy Wong's professional career spans over 25 years of sales, marketing and strategy experience. She is known for her demonstrated leadership abilities and her commitment to foster leadership in others. Currently, she sets the direction and strategy for the Global Partner Sales Organization of Sun Microsystems.

In addition to her strategy role, Tammy is the President of the Women's Organization at Sun which includes worldwide membership with over 2000 members. In 2005, she earned her PhD in Organization and Management with an emphasis in Leadership. Her doctoral dissertation was on "Fostering Executive Leadership in Women."

Lisa Locklear, VP of Finance, Ingram Micro
Lisa Locklear leads the Finance organization supporting the business operations, planning and strategy for the $12 billion North America region of Ingram Micro, the world's largest wholesale distributor of technology products and services. Ingram Micro, a $28 billion global company, is number 72 on the 2006 Fortune 500 and a publicly traded company (NYSE: IM) based in Santa Ana, CA.

Lisa's financial leadership and strategic vision have helped to guide companies to higher profitability and increased shareholder value. Her 22-year career includes 2 overseas tours of duty in Paris, France and London, England with Price Waterhouse and The Walt Disney Company prior to joining Ingram Micro in 2003. She is a CPA and completed her MBA at UC Irvine. As an active participant in Finance Executives International, the Dean's Leadership Circle at The Paul Merage School of Business, UC Irvine and other local organizations, Lisa enjoys sharing her strategies for success in the corporate environment.
