Soaring on the Winds of Change: Leading During Turbulent Times

Join WITI for an evening with Hilary J. Baker, Vice President for Information Technology/CIO at Cal State University, Northridge, for "Soaring on the Winds of Change: Leading During Turbulent Times." Hilary will highlight strategies she has leveraged to create transformational change during the unprecedented California budget cuts. She will also share her experiences as a woman leader in technology over the course of her career.

About Our Speaker(s)

Hilary J. Baker began her service as chief information officer (CIO) at California State University, Northridge in July 2006. In that role, she oversees information technology services at the university. In May 2007 she was named Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.

Baker has more than 25 years of information technology experience, primarily in the higher education and non-profit environments. Prior to joining the Northridge campus, she served as associate vice president and CIO at Pepperdine University, leading its Information Technology division in the successful launch of a major new administrative system and other technology initiatives.

Before her term at Pepperdine, Baker served as the senior director of Information Technology Services for the California State University Office of the Chancellor. In that capacity, she managed the planning, design, development, implementation and support of a system-wide suite of human resource, financial and student information systems to support the administrative requirements of the 23 California State University campuses. Baker also held successive appointments at the J. Paul Getty Trust/Museum, among them manager of information systems.

Baker currently serves on the Oracle Education & Research Strategy Council and has served on the Northridge Hospital Community Board since 2006. She served on the Board of PeopleSoft’s Higher Education User Group from 1999 – 2002. Baker also has held numerous committee appointments with EDUCAUSE, serving as program committee chair for the EDUCAUSE 2004 annual conference and chair of the Seminars on Academic Computing Board for 2006-2007. She is currently serving on the EDUCAUSE Recognition Committee. Baker was recipient of the 2004 Computerworld Honors Laureate, awarded for visionary use of information technology, and she was selected to join the 2004 Leadership California Annual Issues Program for California women executives.

Baker holds a master's degree in architecture and urban planning from UCLA, majoring in computer-based information systems, and a joint honors Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and geography from the University of Birmingham, England.
