BE WiSE, 'Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering,’ provides Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education opportunities free of charge to girls in San Diego. BE WiSE participants enter the program in the 7th or 8th grade by submitting an application and letter of recommendation from a teacher.
BeWiSE goals are to: 1) develop a diverse community of young women (grades 7-12) engaged in STEM learning through out-of-school activities; 2) to stimulate young women's interest in STEM through interactions with STEM professionals; 3) to increase young women's real world experiences in STEM and knowledge of STEM fields of study; and 4) to sustain alumnae interest and involvement and promote ongoing participation for women in STEM at all levels.
