Meet Monica Goel, Executive Director, Accessibility at CVS Health.

Q: What did you want to be when you were a child?

A: As a child, I travelled all over the world as a diplomat’s daughter, living in many places, like San Francisco - United States, Mauritius, Australia, India. Having to move every three years and adjust to newness, I never really considered the question of what I wanted to be. In my high school years, I found more clarity and knew that above all else, I wanted to be an independent woman. Living in India at the time, computer engineering seemed to be the best way to achieve this goal.

Q: How do you balance your work life and home life?

A: I love my family and I enjoy my work. With this foundational belief, I was able to chart my course with adjustments along the way as things changed and my kids grew. For example, when my kids were younger, I travelled less. But as my kids grew older, it was easier to travel.

Q: What is one thing you wish you would have done differently in your career?

A: I would have sought out mentors, sponsors, much earlier in my career. Over the years, they have advised, supported, guided, and challenged me on my career direction and were instrumental to me finding my place in the accessibility program.

Q: Have you reached your full potential? What has held you back from reaching your full potential?

A: I always find learning and figuring out new things is what keeps me engaged. Because of this I feel my potential is only limited by what new opportunities I’m presented with.

Q: Is perfection possible?

A: The definition of perfection is the action or process of improving something until it is faultless or as faultless as possible. By this definition, I would say no. In a world that is constantly changing, especially in the technology space, adjustments are always needed. Because of this, I believe it’s better to focus on progress rather than perfection.
