105: Drone Engineering: Exploring New Capabilities in STEM Education

Desi Ekstein - a female UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) pilot with over 100 flights and a passion to fly and to help others - has a Federal Aviation Administration Section 333 exemption and is currently working on obtaining her sport pilot license.

Ms. Ekstein uses her drones for photography and videography. She has written for two UAS Internet sites - Skylabflightsystems.com and DigitalAviators.net - regarding drone safety and awareness. She has owned and operated a successful business for over 20 years. Her "Fly Right" program promotes the value of drones and teaches safety in accordance with current FAA guidelines. Ms. Ekstein also works with Leslie Bates at SheDrones and STEM education. She is married with one daughter, has a degree in Police Science, and is very active in her church.
