WITI Annual Career Event

Please join the Sacramento Network of Women in Technology International (WITI) for our Annual Career event!

A panel of IT executives will discuss career issues impacting women in IT. Additionally, recruiting professionals from VSP, EMC, CGI, RagingWire, Agreeya and Experis, to name a few will provide resume critique, career/job hunting advice and will share their open IT jobs.

Cheryl Hotaling, Vice President ~ CGI

Cheryl oversees all aspects of account management and oversight for the State of California Account, including business strategy, sales, capture and delivery. She has spent more than 25 years working in both the public and private sectors delivering IT solutions for various State of California agencies and departments. Her experience includes the direct delivery and oversight of large-scale system integration projects, independent project oversight, software development, independent verification and validation and quality assurance. Prior to joining CGI in November 2010, Cheryl served as 21st Century Project Manager for the State Controller's Office, Chief Information Officer for the Department of Child Support Services and Deputy Director for the Health and Human Services Agency Data Center. She also has over seven years of project oversight, delivery and business development experience working for various Sacramento-based consulting firms.

Roy Mathew, Principal ~ Deloitte Consulting

Roy Mathew is a partner in Deloitte’s Technology Strategy practice focused on IT Transformation, Shared Services and Cost Reduction across various Public and Private Sector organizations. He has provided a wide range of IT services to clients in the High Tech, Media, Healthcare, Financial Services, Consumer Business and Public Sector industries. He is actively involved in developing the firm’s capabilities in IT transformation, business process reengineering, and operational performance improvement. He has presented at numerous conferences and events on these topics. Roy holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Christie Borchin, Deputy Director, Office of Professional Development ~ CA Department of Technology

Christie Borchin is the Deputy Director over the Office of Professional Development at the CA Department of Technology. Christie oversees several programs focusing on educating the IT workforce. She manages the IT Leaders Academy, the Project Academy series and is over State IT workforce development. Previously, Christie was the Agency Chief Information Officer at the CA Department of Veterans Affairs. Christie oversaw the operations of IT for the department and managed a budget of over $10 million dollars. During her tenure, the CalVet Mobile App garnered awards for: Best of Show at the Government Mobility Conference; earned an Honorable Mention for the Digital Government Achievement Award was a NASCIO finalist. From 2008 to 2010, Christie was the CIO at the CA Department of Insurance. Ms. Borchin attended California State University, Sacramento, and the University of California at Davis Extension Program, where she earned a Project Management Certificate.

Sumi Smith, Chief, Customer Service Division ~ CalTrans

Ms. Smith is the Chief of the Customer Service Division at Caltrans where she manages the Caltrans IT project portfolio, software analysis, design and testing, and oversees operational IT for Caltrans offices statewide. She was previously Chief of the Product Management Division at the Employment Development Department. Ms. Smith is a certified PMP with a background in engineering, with over 20 years of experience managing IT and engineering projects both in the public and private sectors. Her expertise is in product development providing project management, process improvement and change management, training and knowledge transfer, procurement, product development and management, IV&V, and IPOC.

Ms. Smith has concentrated in managing large and complex projects with an emphasis in project management, methodology development, and independent project oversight (IPOC), Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V), procurement, and implementation of quality methodology initiatives. In addition to her technology credentials, Ms. Smith is also an experienced instructor, seminar speaker, and author, with articles appearing in regionally and nationally published magazines and newsletters; as well as a contributing author to the PMI Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3TM).

Ms. Smith is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, with a degree in Environmental/Civil Engineering; Ms. Smith was a past Vice President of Education for the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the Project Management Institute. She has also been an instructor in the California State University Sacramento College of Continuing Education and specializing in Project Management, Procurement Management, and Quality Management.
